Dr. Erica Oltra is a board certified pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon with a private practice in Manhattan.
She graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Bioengineering, and then earned her M.D. from Penn State College of Medicine. After an internship at Harbor UCLA, Dr. Oltra completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Chicago where she was elected to serve as chief resident. Dr. Oltra then pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. She has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and has presented at both national and international meetings.
Prior to joining Pediatric Ophthalmic Consultants, Dr. Oltra served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College.

She’s very nice and personable, I’ve been to the 72nd St., Westchester and Bowery offices. All three of them are significantly different but yet they’re beautiful at the same time. Clearly, no expense spared in the construction of these offices being very modern and one being kinda 1920s the great Gatsby kind of I don’t know what I’m trying to describe but basically it looks like a beautiful old Lawyer office that has a dark Wood a lot of wood paneling and Molding and it’s just very impressive to be honest with you. I’m not grading off of the style of her offices, but like I said, they’re very impressive and definitely the nicest offices I’ve ever seen for a doctor of any type or possibly any business. Her team is also very thorough. I’ve got multiple calls before and after the surgery I had with her and, I had multiple reminder emails and calls about my follow up appointments. She was very honest and saying I didn’t need surgery on my right eye, but if I wanted to, I could come back in a year and see how I’m doing which I appreciated because most of the time Dr try to push you towards the moneymaker. Enclosing like I said she’s a great person always smiling. We’ve been following up with Dr Oltra for my daughter’s myopia. With atropine drops and monitoring, her vision has been preserved and hasn’t needed corrective lenses until 5th grade. We love Dr. Oltra. It’s as simple as that. We came to her for a second opinion some time ago and she not only noticed something the prior physician (who was the chief of the department at a famed local children’s hospital) missed, but she referred us to a specialist who confirmed her suspicions and ultimately performed a serious operation on our child. This is not to say every parents and child’s journey will be as dramatic or frightening as ours. For most it will not and thank g-d for that. However, when you’re in that small percentage of people who face a true crisis, you want caring and capable physicians by your side. Dr. Oltra is far more than that. Dr. Oltra is honest, efficient, talented and has a wonderful bedside manner! We came to her from Long Island for a second opinion. Despite her numerous wonderful reviews, the city is a distance from our home and we assumed that we would see her once and call it a day. We were very wrong. First of all, in comparison to the first doctor who we saw (who ran her practice like an impersonal factory), the office was so clean and organized and the staff was very very nice. The appointment rooms are tidy and spacious and perfect for infants and older children. The office is run very well. Today was our longest wait ever there and still we were in and out in under an hour as we didn’t have to dilate today. Some doctors dilate at all appointments just for the extra billing. I appreciated the honesty that it isn’t always needed. Dr. Oltra herself is extremely knowledgeable and skilled with infants and toddlers alike. She noticed an abnormality in our son’s skull related to an eye condition a different condition diagnosed. It was separate but related and the first physician we saw, the head of pediatric ophthalmology at a top children’s hospital in the area, missed it. It turns out Dr. Oltra was a miracle worker. She sent us to a neurosurgeon who confirmed her suspected diagnoses (he also said the first doctor should have caught this). We have seen her since the surgery and our son no longer needs glasses. Later on she re-examined her and decided she needed surgery! I have done my research with her and she is rated in the top 10 in NYC!! I will definitely review when surgery is complete.
